My task was to design and build a website for the Baguio Chapter of the Young Men's Christian Organization (YMCA) to replace an existing but inaccessible website with outdated information.

Web content was provided but edited by me.

Overview & Goals

Having a website that looks great and functions well is a sure way to establish credibility and keep your target audience informed. In this age of technology, people look up everything online to verify information and help aid their decision-making. An online presence is now a requirement if you really want to make an impact.

Based on our initial review of the existing YMCA Baguio website (https://ymca.powersites.ph) and discussions with the Board of Directors, we recommended the following enhancements:

  • Set up the domain and hosting to make it more secure and professional

  • Update the web design to improve user interface and experience (UI/UX)

  • Set up a simple and accessible online booking feature for facilities

  • Set up a simple and accessible online membership application process

  • Update photos with their higher resolution counterparts

  • Optimize metadata for search engines

  • Update contact information

  • Integrate social media accounts

In order to achieve the following quantifiable objectives:

  • Increase membership & volunteerism;

  • Increase bookings of facilities;

  • Increase website traffic; and

Most importantly, align the website with the global YMCA branding and in doing so, strengthen community ties and let more people know about the programs and activities linked to your mission and vision.

This may be accomplished through a complete website audit to determine what’s working, what isn’t, and what can be improved. This arms us with the information needed to ensure that the website is generating high quality traffic, converting visitors into loyal members, and improving the organization's online presence that affects not just YMCA Baguio's local, but also international, image.

Scope of Work

Several aspects of the website was examined during the website audit process. They all play an important role in how well a website can meet the organization's goals.

User Experience

We tried to understand who the organization's target audience is in order to determine the structure, function, and flow of the website. Once set, we proceeded with constructing and implementing a design that will help YMCA Baguio’s information dissemination and ROI.

Content Audit

We reviewed the content of the existing website for quality, consistency, structure, and information architecture. This included proofreading text, editing images, and making sure all links and buttons are working.

SEO Audit

We performed in-depth research and provided specific recommendations to improve the organization's rankings in search engines (e.g. Google).

Technology

Accessibility and maintainability are the foundations to an effective website. We configured the front-end code and back-end platform to make sure that it runs efficiently.

Mobile Responsiveness

To include the majority target audience, we ensured that the website is mobile-friendly. It should be properly viewable on any device.
